What is Wellness?


As a brand that is focused on wellness, it is important to discuss what's actually considered to be 'wellness'. I personally believe that wellness has several definitions, but for the purpose of this brand, wellness can be defined as "an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a healthier lifestyle". In my opinion, this definition does a great job of encapsulating the major components of wellness and emphasizes that it is a process that can bring someone closer to a healthier lifestyle, which includes mental and physical components.


Majority of the time, when asked about the meaning of wellness and wellness activities, people think about happiness or being 'at peace'. While I believe that wellness can help someone to facilitate the mindset and create a lifestyle that can make them more happy, I think that the concept of 'happiness' is a journey rather than an end goal. Realistically, as human beings we go through countless emotions each and every day, and even the most reputable and respected wellness gurus experience times where they aren't necessarily 'happy'. However, by actively engaging in and prioritizing wellness activities, I believe that one can gain the tools needed to handle difficult times in a more effective manner and develop healthier coping mechanisms.


Overall, I believe that engaging in wellness activities can be extremely beneficial for several people, and that wellness activities can take various forms, including (but not limited to): exercise, healthy eating, yoga, meditation, art, music, writing, healthy sleeping patterns, therapy, chanting, embracing spirituality, etc. The more that people start to explore these different tools that are available to them, the better they can start to understand themselves and begin working towards a healthier lifestyle.
